Bethesda has finally unveiled the Fallout 4 next-gen update release date. Announced over a year ago, this update will enhance the 2015 RPG for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5.

The release of the Fallout 4 update comes after Amazon’s Fallout TV series (check out our review here). Keeping the hype train running, the new patch will upgrade the awesome role-playing game in a huge free update.

The new patch upgrades Fallout 4 on the now current-gen machines. You’ll now be able to choose between Performance Mode and Quality Mode, offering either 60fps gameplay or 4K rendering.

Alongside the new graphical options, Bethesda has also added some free new content for all players. A new quest, Echoes of the Past, adds The Enclave into Fallout 4 as you’re tasked with stopping the dangerous faction from gaining a foothold in The Commonwealth.

Players will also get access to the previously released Creation Club items:

  • Enclave Weapon Skins
  • Enclave Armor Skins
  • Tesla Cannon
  • Hellfire Power Armor
  • X-02 Power Armor
  • Heavy Incinerator

Bethesda has also made two new Creation Club packs available for Fallout 4. The Makeshift Weapon Pack adds normal items as weapons, including a piggy bank, a nail gun, and more. The Halloween Workshop adds 38 themed decorations for you to decorate your settlements just a few months late.

Unfortunately, the new next-gen update doesn’t increase the mod limit size for console players. As one of the most requested features for the new update, fans of the console versions were hoping they would be able to fill their games with even more mods, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Alongside the new content and graphical options, Fallout 4’s new update also comes with a host of bug fixes and stability improvements for all platforms. Even PC players have new goodies such as widescreen and ultra widescreen support and new Creation Kit options. Furthermore, Chinese and Japanese users will actually be able to log into the Creation Club service for the first time in years.

With Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC still without a release date, Fallout 4’s new quest is the first new Bethesda mission since Starfield’s launch last year.

The Fallout 4 next-gen update releases on all platforms on April 25, 2024.
