Controversial American football player O.J. Simpson has been confirmed dead. The 76-year-old alleged double murderer died of cancer last night surrounded by family.
Known mostly for his American football career and likely double murder of wife Nicole Brown Simpson and friend Ron Goldman in 1994, the dead sportsman’s video game career isn’t as vast as his contemporary footballers. However, you can play as the alleged killer in the lesser-known All-Pro Football 2K8.
Created back in 2007 after 2K lost the Madden license to EA, All-Pro Football 2K8 lets you play through the fictional APL (All-Pro League) entirely consisting of ex-footballers. Surprisingly, the now unalive OJ Simpson is included in the game’s player roster.
Part of the game’s Gold Tier Roster, OJ Simpson is a full playable character. In the final version of the sports game, Simpson is a member of the fictional Cyclones team. However, in pre-production, the dead footballer was part of the New Jersey Assassins.
In All-Pro Football 2K8, the New Jersey Assassins perform a neck-slicing gesture as their taunt. Additionally, the team’s animatronic mascot makes a stabbing motion. As expected, many were uncomfortable with the accused murderer being part of a team with a stabbing theme.
However, if you can get your hands on a copy of All-Pro Football 2K8 for Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, you can play as O.J. Simpson if you really want to. With any money Simpson made from video games legally required to be sent to the family of his alleged victims, the footballer rarely made any video game appearances.
However, if you really want to get your O.J. fix, you can also watch the footballer’s iconic car chase with police on TV screens in Duke Nukem 3D. Although, we would suggest maybe just not wanting to play as O.J. Simpson in a video game, it’s for the best.
All-Pro Football 2K8 will likely never be re-released, but you can find used copies on eBay if you really want it.
