Breakdown

  • Activision will start punishing Warzone players using boosting services
  • Anyone using services to increase their skill rating may be punished if caught
  • Boosting lobbies designed to increase SR are being targeted

Boosting services in Call of Duty: Warzone may go the way of the dodo as Activision warns Warzone players of potential bans for abusing the system. Players using services to rapidly increase their Skill Rating may have their accounts banned in the near future.

Similar to players using the best Fortnite XP maps, Warzone players have been using specific SR lobbies to quickly rank up. This has led many normal players to criticize the system with leaderboards filled with “cheaters” using boosts to rank up.

Fans of the free-to-play FPS game shared footage of a Resurgence Ranked lobby offered by a Chinese boosting service. Another fan shared a graph showing that 100 of the 250 best Warzone players are using boosted accounts.

Activision has now warned players that they will be swiftly banned if they’re found engaging in SR boosting activities. A statement released on Twitter revealed that over 29,000 accounts have been banned for boosting methods.

“Artificially inflating SR won't be permitted. Accounts engaging in this behavior will be banned,” Activision said. “ We will consider all available technical and legal options for shutting these illicit services down.”

With the recent atrocious launch of Warzone Mobile, boosting lobbies are expected to increase in popularity. With Warzone Mobile cross-progression, this could result in even more cheaters rising to the top of the leaderboards across all platforms.

Activision is also readying the release of Warzone Season 3, bringing with it the return of Rebirth Island. The season is also expected to bring with it some of the best Advanced Warfare weapons into the Modern Warfare ecosystem for the first time. Woohoo?

Despite a rough launch, Warzone Mobile is also receiving the new season day and date with its console counterparts. With Rebirth Island already part of the mobile game, players will receive the same skins, weapons and balance changes as the console versions in the pre-existing map.

Warzone is currently available to play for free on Xbox, PlayStation and PC. Warzone Mobile is available for free on Android and iOS.
