Gears of War 6 news reportedly coming this Summer, possibly at Xbox Games Showcase

Insiders are claiming that Gears of War 6, or Gears 6, will be revealed soon, potentially at the next Xbox Games Showcase later this June. Considering how many eyes will be at the next Xbox show, it would be a good move to show what The Coalition have been cooking up.

Speaking with Kinda Funny Games, insider Jeff Grubb said that we might hear about the official sixth game in this series this Summer. This comes after host Parris Lilly predicted seeing this after a developer from The Coalition subtweeted her about the potential next installment.

“I will say, I’ve heard some stuff might be happening with Gears 6 this summer, so I think that tease sounds about right to me, Parris. That seems like what we can expect,” Grubb told her.

Not long after, The Verge’s Senior Editor Tom Warren said that Grubb was correct and we will likely see Gears of War 6 soon. While none of this is official, the fact that so many people in the industry are speaking up about it does have fans curious. Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase is still in June, but it looks like fans have something to look forward to.

Gears 5 was the last official game in the franchise, with many praising the game’s campaign and solid multiplayer. The name change was definitely an acquired taste since only fans called the series “Gears” prior, but Microsoft went with it. It will be interesting to see if the next game will follow this new “Gears” formula or if they will revert to Gears of War again.

Originally developed by Epic Games, the first few Gears of War games for the Xbox 360 were huge hits and helped it dominate over Sony’s PS3 for a bit. After Epic decided to go independent, The Coalition took over and fans thought their efforts with Gears 4 and Gears 5 were solid. Let’s hope that Gears of War 6 is able to bring some of that magic back to Xbox.
