All of us knew this was coming. As Palworld rose to meteoric success, amassing over 8 million players, many passed it off as a fad that would fade into obscurity after a month. It appears these accusations weren't baseless, as Palworld has suffered Steam's biggest-ever 2 week drop in player count after losing 1.4 million players.

Palworld peaked its concurrent player count on 28 January 2024 with 2,101,867 concurrent players. However, in only 15 days since that peak, the total concurrent player count dropped down to 682,032 on 9 February 2024. While most of us expected Palworld to slowly drop off players as players catch up with content, we didn't expect the drop in numbers to be so sudden.

This by no means suggests that Palworld is dead, as it currently maintains around 700k concurrent players, which is an impressive achievement in itself around a month after launch. Palworld remains the game with the second-highest active user count at the moment, as it beats out the likes of DOTA 2, Baldur's Gate 3, and Helldivers 2, only losing out to Counter-Strike 2.

Regardless of the drop in player numbers, Pocketpair remains dedicated to updating Palworld as they expand their team, hold giveaways, and release a roadmap for the future of the game. As new content gets added and the game expands, we're likely to see the player count soar once more.

It's unlikely for the player count to always remain this high, but we expect that the numbers will drop and stabilise at a pretty respectable 100k-200k figure within a month or two. So, despite this drop-off in numbers, Palworld is not dying anytime soon and still holds the potential to continue making waves across the gaming community.

Keep in mind that these numbers are only for Steam and don't speak for Xbox players who got the game through Game Pass. Microsoft is still promoting Palworld, and Sony might jump into the fray to release Palworld on the PS5.
